On 25th March, 2014, the BCIM Economic Corridor Cooperation Seminar has been held at Bangladesh Chittagong, which has been sponsored by Bangladesh Chittagong Industry and Commerce Federation and Institute of Governance of Brac University. The Seminar has been hosted by Mr. Mahbubul Alam (the President of Chittagong Industry and Commerce Federation) and Mr. M. Shahidul Islam (the Professor of Institute of Governance of Brac University); during the Seminar, many experts in these fields from both countries have made a speech, they are Mr. Liu Jinxing (Deputy Secretary-general of Association for Economic Cooperation and Trade Promotion between Yunnan and South and Southeast Asia, the President of China Kunming Opening-Asian Transportation Logistics Research Institute), Mr. Lei Zhuning (the Deputy Director of Institute of Southeast Asia Studies of Yunnan Academy of Social Science, Mr. Syed Mahmudul Huq (the President of Bangladesh-Myanmar Business Promotion Association), Mr. Moinul Islam Mahmud (the Former President of Chittagong Industry and Commerce Federation) and Mr. Somnath Halder ( Assistant Commissioner of India High Commission at Bangladesh).
    And also invited the distinguished guests to make a speech during the Seminar, they are Md. Shahriar Alam MP (the National Affair Minister of Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Ambassador Li Jun (Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh), Mr. Sandeep Chakrabarti (Sub-senior Commissioner of India High Commission at Bangladesh) and Mr. M.A. Latif ( Member of Congress of Bangladesh).
    There were more than 200 governmental officers, entrepreneurs, experts and journalists from Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chittagong Industry and Commerce Federation, research institutes, medias and other organizations to take part in this Seminar.
    Md. Shahriar Alam MP pointed that the BCIM Economic Corridor construction would support strong growth power for regional economic development; during the regional development, the private enterprises will play important role; we should extend the cross-border transport facilitation to India to promote the interconnection and interworking; the Economic Corridor Construction was the important opportunity for promotion the economic and social development for Bangladesh. He emphasized that Bangladesh would cooperate closely with other three countries to contribute for starting and developing the Economic Corridor.

    In the speech of Ambassador Li Jun, he pointed out that, before 2000 years ago, the South Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road has connected China, Bangladesh, India and Myanmar already. In order to realize goods trade and personnel communication, to promote regional economic, social and cultural development, these two roads advance the communication and integration between different civilizations and this was one splendid page in human’s history. The Silk Road is the symbol for peach, cooperation, opening, toleration, mutual study and mutual adaptation. The BCIM Economic Corridor had the inspiration from the ancient Silk Roads, so the main fields of BCIM construction should include the interconnection and interworking in transportation, telecommunication, electricity and energy, trade and investment, sustainable development, cultural and educational communication and other fields.
    Ambassador Li Jun emphasized that, more than 14 years academic discussion supported the intellectual support and the participation of four countries’ governments supported the powerful policy guarantee for Economic Corridor construction. Now before everything, we should speed up to establish the system on the base of separated national reporting; we should confirm the early harvesting programs which benefited for the publics along the Economic Corridor; we should strengthen the cooperation in cultural and educational communication and social development. He pointed that Chittagong is the key connection point in the Economic Corridor construction, and the local industrial and commercial fields were the main participants in the Economic Corridor, through the construction, the local people would also get benefit from it.
